Economic Gardening
Economic Gardening (EG) is a concept, an idea, a
philosophy of how to develop long-term, economic stability in a
community. It involves processes to assist existing
businesses within a community to become more successful and to
assist new businesses in getting started right so they can
become successful. EG is not a business recruitment
program like virtually all typical Economic Development
programs, it is a necessary compliment to the recruitment
process.
You can get your Economic Gardening program up and running and producing tangible,
measurable results in weeks, not months or years.
Three critical phases of EG that tend to be difficult to
implement:
Behavior Patterns
Most of us who've studied EG will agree Behavior Patterns
will control the success of a company. How do we
accomplish this Behavior Assessment readily, at a reasonable
price and without spending months training in the process? Use the Business Intelligence Profile
developed by Business Resource Systems, Inc. and Dr. Laura
Belsten. It can be delivered in about 30 minutes by
virtually anyone, is self-scored and the person taking the
assessment can read how they compare to the matrix at the end.
It will show them how their scores match up to the optimum
entrepreneur. It sells for $30 and can provide ongoing
support for the person if they choose.
Market Research
The second area of concern in a productive EG program
is market research. Too often we see people attempting to
accomplish market research with no background in it, or no
background in business. If one wants to research business
issues they must know about business. If one wishes to
research anything they need to have a background in research.
Finding a combination of these two is at least difficult and can
be virtually impossible. Therefore, we found a research
firm in Denver, Colorado who can accomplish the task of
research. For many companies they only need what we call a
Go-No Go market study early in their startup process. Does
the business or location make any market sense and the Go-No Go
answers this question. Give us a call and we can fill you
in on the details.
Ongoing Coaching
Too many times we've seen people getting advice from people
who've never been in business. There are organizations who
provide Technical Assistance who don't have previous business
experience in their requirements to assist small businesses.
This makes no sense to us since we strongly believe in the old
adage, "You can't teach something you've never done"?
Would you take pilot lessons from someone who never flew a
plane? Would you take driving lessons from someone who
never drove a car?
Our coaches have years of hands-on business experience, we did
not just read a book or take a class. We provide ongoing
coaching in both group or one-to-one settings, in-person or by
phone.
Our coaching philosophy is based on the premise that a good
coach "leads a person down a path of self-discovery".
Operating a business is a very personal thing so we feel it is
inappropriate for us to tell someone how to run their business.
We will however help them stretch the limits of their thinking
and assist them in developing answers to their questions.
If you would like to get your EG program launched and
producing results quickly just give us a call at 303-833-9059
and we can talk about how.
